“Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Sprit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1213)
“You have asked to have your child baptized.
In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith.
It will be your duty to bring them up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us,
by loving God and our neighbor.
Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?”
(question for parents in the Rite of Baptism)
Our Lady of the Assumption Church welcomes you and your child in this important time. We look forward to meeting with you, preparing you for the celebration of your child’s baptism, celebrating this first sacrament for your child and walking with you on the journey of faith.
For information on your child’s baptism, please contact us at least three months prior to your intended date of baptism. Baptism Preparation Classes are required to help you prepare for this special time in your family’s life, please contact Deacon Michael at Deacon@olaparish.net.
Since you already believe in Christ and want us to prepare you for baptism,
we welcome you joyfully into our Christian family,
where you will come to know Christ better day by day.
Together with us you will try to live as children of God,
for our Lord has taught us:
“Love God with all your heart and love one another as I have loved you.”
(from the Rite of Acceptance for Children)
Children who were not baptized as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age (7 years and above) enter the Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for children. This process of preparation for full initiation in the Church (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) usually lasts at least one year.

Almighty and eternal God,
you continually enlarge the family of your Church.
Deepen the faith and understanding of these chosen for baptism.
Give them new birth in your living waters,
so that they may be numbered among your adopted children.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
(from the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
“The process of initiation in the Catholic community is a gradual process that takes place within the community of the faithful. . . . The rite of initiation is suited to a spiritual journey of adults that varies according to the many forms of God’s grace, the free cooperation of the individuals, the action of the Church, and the circumstances of time and place.” (Introduction to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, #4 and #5) The process of preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This process of preparation for full initiation in the Church usually lasts at least one year.
