Message from Faith Formation Coordinator Joan Cotton

It is not too late to sign your children up for Faith Formation!

This Sunday, September 12th after all morning Masses (7:30, 9:00, 11:00), a catechist will be in the front of the Church waiting for you to bring your children to sign up for Faith Formation Classes.  Faith Formation classes are for ALL children Grades K-8 attending Public schools.

The vision of Faith Formation recognizes our parents as the primary educators of our children and we as catechists and assistants to parents in supporting, encouraging and teaching examples of God's love in the time we have with our children. Society today can bring many challenges to our Christian families.  We must all work together to strengthen God's love with our children. Faith formation promotes knowledge of our faith and helps both you, as Parents, and we as Catechists, see our youth view God's love and the duties He is asking us to share.

Parents communicate values and attitudes by showing love for Christ and His church and for each other.  We, Parents and Catechists working together to pass on the love, the joy, the importance of teaching the children the strength given to them as they learn about the Sacraments.

There is nothing so precious to see a child preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Communion take the first step of preparing our soul when we receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Catechist works with the child helping him/her to know that God is ALL FORGIVING.  God loves us no matter what mistakes we might make in life.  He simply asks us to forgive and try and try again.

Our Lady of the Assumption Catechists take seriously our responsibility to plan and carry out faith formation programs and processes that will augment the faith formation and christian life-style.  We work to prepare the ground for the seeds of faith to grow during the years when children are imitating, personalizing and establishing their life of faith. While God gives his free gift of faith, parents help nurture and strengthen that gift.  Our Faith Formation program as well as our Sacramental Preparation process is the primary way we acknowledge and accept our responsibility to assist our FAMILIES in our parish to fulfill their role as the primary educators of their children in matters of faith and to support what our Holy Father states "the future of humanity passes by way of the family."

Together, we can bring our children to God!

God bless,

Joan Cotton
